Primo Global Holdings Co., Ltd. undertook nature conservation work on Mt. Fuji as part of the “PRIMO RING PROJECT”, which is a company-wide CSR activity. This conservation work, which began in 2013 based on an idea from employees, is now in its ninth year, with 13 employees participating this year to protect the beautiful scenery of Mt. Fuji, which is also used in our logo.

During the morning cleanup, participants removed empty cans and plastic waste that had been discarded at the foot of mountain, and collected a large amount of waste that is nonbiodegradable, such as glass bottles. The participants were surprised to see soft drink and alcohol bottles still in their original form, in a location that had lain untouched for many years. Because the site for the conservation work was at high altitude halfway up Mt. Fuji, the weather was foggy and chilly. But the participants became absorbed in their work and in the end, they managed to collect a total of 40 kg of waste (30 kg of combustible and 10 kg of incombustible waste).

In the afternoon, they entered a forest that has only just begun to be maintained by human intervention, and continued their work while being taught about Japanese forests. A phenomenon called “trampling” occurs when large numbers of people enter a forest in an unregulated manner, the soil is compacted, tree roots are constricted, and the trees are unable to take in water and nutrients, causing them to wither. In order to prevent the damage caused by trampling, the participants worked to build a path made of logs. The work of carrying the logs demonstrated teamwork, which is one of Primo GHD’s standards of conduct. Participants called out to each other and carried the logs forward in groups of two or three to build the path. The path was completed using small branches to prevent the logs on the ground from rolling out of place.

Going forward, Primo Global Holdings will continue to undertake these activities for protecting the beautiful environment of Mt. Fuji.
