Primo Japan Inc. has been awarded “GOLD” in the PRIDE INDEX 2021(*2). Sponsored by “work with Pride”, a voluntary organization established with the aim of creating more comfortable workplaces for LGBTQ(*1)workers and other sexual minorities, the PRIDE Index evaluates corporate LGBTQ initiative. Primo Japan was the sole recipient of the “GOLD” award. This is also the first PRIDE Index “GOLD” award given to a company in the bridal industry (*3).

◆Creating an environment where everyone can work comfortably
As part of our diversity management efforts, we at Primo Japan are working to create an environment in which diverse human resources can play an active role. In 2019, we launched our work-style reform project based on our company philosophy of offering “PRIMO (the best) dreams for PRIMO (supreme) happiness.” Since April 2020, we have been working to promote understanding of LGBT issues within the company by conducting e-training for employees on systems relating to spouses and families of employees that are accessible to all employees regardless of supporting evidence.

In this year’s PRIDE Index 2021, Primo Japan was awarded the “GOLD” award after meeting all five of the Index’s criteria: “Policy” (declaration of action), “Representation” (fostering LGBT community), “Inspiration” (awareness activities), “Development” (HR systems / programs), and “Engagement/Empowerment” (social contributions and public relations). Going forward, we aim to further develop awareness within the company and create an environment in which LGBT employees can work comfortably by checking employees’ knowledge levels through periodic testing, etc. Also, by participating in LGBT events and activities outside the company, we can actively introduce engagement and wedding rings to LGBT couples, creating happiness in the shape of a ring for even more couples regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Now in its fifth year, the index works towards “the creation of workplaces where LGBT people can work comfortably beyond the framework set by companies and organizations” by offering three award levels (Gold, Silver and Bronze) to companies based on their total score in the following five areas:

“Policy: Declaration of Action” Index
“Representation: Fostering LGBT communities” Index
“Inspiration: Awareness Activities” Index
“Development: HR Systems & Programs” Index
“Engagement/Empowerment: Social Contributions / Public Relations” Index
