Primo Japan Inc., through our original brand I-PRIMO, will co-sponsor the “Yokosuka x LGBTQ+ Fashion Show” (Event date: 2021/08/31 (Tues), hosted by the volunteer student organization ReCrop.

◆Sponsorship Background
Based on our company philosophy of offering “PRIMO (the best) dreams for PRIMO (supreme) happiness”, and from our desire to fulfill the dreams of as many people as possible by helping them express their happiness in the shape of a ring, we at Primo Japan launched our CSR initiative, the PRIMO RING PROJECT in 2009. The PRIMO RING PROJECT is a company-wide initiative that continues to carry out various activities each year. Our LGBT-related activities include removing gender-specific sizing terms such as “Men’s” and “Women’s”, along with abbreviations indicating Men’s (M) and Ladies (L) products on our official company website in Japan from 2018, and also modified our order forms for customers ordering wedding rings to eliminate the field specifying gender.
Also, since April 2020, we have been working to promote understanding of LGBT issues within the company by conducting e-learning programs for employees on systems relating to spouses and families of employees, which have been changed so that they are accessible to all employees regardless of proof of relationship or other documentation. In November 2020, Primo Japan was awarded “Silver” by PRIDE Index 2020, which evaluates companies’ LGBT initiatives based on the organization’s “Work with Pride” criteria.

Primo Japan decided to co-sponsor the “Yokosuka x LGBTQ+ Fashion Show” because we support the host organization’s concept of “Regional Revitalization x SDGs” and their mission “to deepen understanding of diversity, and to create a world in which everyone shows respect for one another by forging connections between local governments and companies.”

◆About the Volunteer Student Organization ReCrop
ReCrop is a volunteer organization led by students from Sophia University, Keio University, Aoyama Gakuin University and Tamagawa University that engages in projects based on the concept of “SDGs x Regional Revitalization.” Their stated vision is to “attract tourists to rural areas by hosting events, while at the same time promoting migration to and employment in rural areas and revitalizing Japan by nurturing human resources engaged in regional revitalization.” Through everyday conversations, the group members learned that many friends and acquaintances were LGBTQ+, and heard that many of them feel that life is difficult. These friends said they felt unable to do anything about it on their own, and often seemed to be really suffering. Seeing their suffering, the students at ReCrop were convinced that they should help and were determined to bring about genderless equality.
